The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) was founded in Los Angeles, California, in 1974 by a group of engineers employed by the city of Los Angeles.  Their objective was to form a national organization of professional engineers to serve as role models in the Hispanic community.

 

The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers - Texas Bay Area Chapter (SHPE-TBAC) was established in 1988 and covers the southern region of Houston. The goals of the chapter area summarized by the following three objectives:

• Improve the quality of education for Hispanics by being role models through publicity of our activities as a group and accomplishments of our individual members. Provide direction in careers and share our skills and expertise with other Hispanics and the community.

 

• Enhance leadership skills for professional member and create opportunities within the chapter for members to increase their leadership potential. Inform member of national events and activities for national participation.

 

• Increase the visibility and numbers of Hispanics in the professional work force. Coordinate with other groups to better organize our various programs and involve company executives in our projects and sponsorship.
